Chapter 3. Configuration

Unit Address / Instr Type:
Depending on which communication protocol you select on the
Modbus Communications Settings window, the UCT software displays the
Unit Address
or
Instr Type
(instrument type) column.
Unit Address
displays for all communication
protocols other than Mercury.
Instr Type
displays only for the Mercury protocol. Values
shown in the
Unit Address
column identify the unit address or unit ID setting for each
mapped register. Based on which Mercury instrument type you choose, a corresponding
identification number displays in the
Instr Type
column. For example, when you configure
the Bullhorn unit for the
Mercor Mini-Max
device, the number 4 displays for each channel
in the
Instr Type
field. Other instrument types and their corresponding identification
numbers include: Mercor Mini - 0, Mercor ECAT - 1, Mercor Electronic Recon - 2, Mercor
Mini-AT - 3, Protocol Translator Board - 5, Turbine interface board - 6, and Not Selected -
7.
Register / Item No:
The UCT software displays either the
Register
or
Item No
column
depending on which communication protocol you select on the Modbus Communications
Settings window.
Register
displays for all communication protocols other than Mercury.
Item No
displays only for the Mercury protocol. The register address currently mapped to a
channel displays in the
Register
field. The Mercury item number currently mapped to a
channel displays in the
Item No
field.
Scaling:
Based on configuration settings for each channel, a positive or negative scale value
displays in the
Scaling
field. The UCT software scales a raw register reading using the scale
value configured for each channel.
The UCT software uses the following method to scale a raw register reading:
•
Divide the raw reading by the scale value.
•
Select the first six digits to the left of the decimal point for a 6-digit register or the first
twelve digits to the left of the decimal point if working with a double register (12-digit
register).
•
If required, add leading zeroes to the left of the number to produce either a 6-digit
scaled reading or, a 12-digit scaled reading when working with a double register.
If you are working with a 6 or 12-digit register and the scaled reading is larger than 6 or
12 digits respectively, the Bullhorn unit reports a register reading of
999999
. The
Bullhorn website displays scaled readings according to the
multiplier
value you select
on the website.
Raw Read / Scaled Read:
Both columns show the last reading received from the input
device for each channel that is mapped to a register address or item number. The
Raw Read
field shows the last received reading without scaling applied to the reading. The
Scaled
Read
field shows the last received reading with scaling applied to the reading. The UCT
software scales the raw reading using the scale value you specify for each channel on the
channel configuration window.
