Connecting the VIBROCONTROL 18xx to a
PLC/PC

RS-485 interface
The VIBROCONTROL 18xx vibration monitor allows "Daisy-Chain" connection. Up to 254 devices
can be addressed individually in an RS-485 chain of devices.
We recommend not connecting more than 50 devices together.
NOTE
The RS-485 interface is used for internal communication of the devices. It is not possible to
access a device directly via the RS-485 interface. To set up communication with a PC, a
VIBROCONTROL 1803/04 is also needed (see also
8.2 VIBROCONTROL 1803/1804 Communication Module
Ethernet Bridge).
To use the RS-485 interface, connect the yellow connector (marked: "RS-485") at the front of the
VIBROCONTROL 18x0 enclosure to the RS-485 chain of devices using a two-wire twisted and
shielded cable.
The cable must be terminated with a 120-
Ω resistor at both ends, i.e. on the PC side and at the last
device on the RS-485 chain of devices.
The VIBROCONTROL 18xx vibration monitor has a built-in 120-
Ω terminating resistor which can
be used for this purpose.
To switch the terminating resistor on, use the small left/right sliding switch behind a small hole on
the front of the VIBROCONTROL 18xx enclosure.
