1.10.1 Upgrading Filter Set
The upgrading of Type 2238 with the 1/1-octave and 1/3-octave filter set is a simple
operation. This procedure is covered in
section 3.3 Filter Set Upgrade.

1.11.2 Exchange Scheme
DO NOT ATTEMPT ANY REPAIR TO BOARD – MOUNTED COMPONENTS ON FRPs!
Type 2238 consists of both Spare Parts and Field Replaceable Parts (FRP). See sec-
tion 3.5.1 to determine the status of a part. The FRP exchange scheme enables
Brüel & Kjær to offer a price reduction on FRPs. To assure economical reuse, it is
important that no attempt is made to repair an FRP locally. If such an attempt is
made and the part subsequently needs to be exchanged, the price of an exchange
FRP is 100% the price of a new one.
If testing shows the fault is in one of the parts covered by the FRP scheme, then
order the appropriate replacement from Nærum. If the entire unit is to be replaced,
then you will be shipped a “Red Bottom Shell” replacement. Transfer the original
Bottom Shell (with serial number) to the new unit, and reload the applicable soft-
ware using the license numbers (and whatever disks) provided by the customer.
1.11.3 How to Order an Entire 2238 as an FRP
You must supply the unit’s Serial Number when ordering. This number is necessary
to track which software licenses the customer originally purchased so we can pre-
load the software into the unit before it is shipped out from Nærum.
We place the unit in a red plastic bottom shell, without serial number, and reload the
software so that the unit matches the configuration which was originally purchased
by the customer.
