Engine does not start
1. Control bar not held down against handle 1. Press down and hold control bar to handle
2. Dirty air filter
2. Clean or replace the air filter
3. Out of fuel
3. Fill the fuel tank
4. Stale fuel; contaminates or water in fuel
4. Drain the tank and refill with fresh clean fuel
5. Spark plug wire is disconnected
5. Connect wire to spark plug
6. Spark plug fouled or not gapped correctly 6. Clean deposits from spark plug electrode
and check for proper gap
7. Loose blade bolt
7. Tighten blade bolt to 45 lb-ft (61 Nm)
Starter rope hard to
pull

Engine lacks power
1. Cutting height is set too low
1. Raise cutting height
2. Grass is very thick
2. Reduce width of cut; raise cutting height
