Taking fi nger prints
Step 1:
Figure 1
We can use a magnifying glass (3) to fi nd fi ngerprints
on comparatively smooth surfaces. Once a fi ngerprint
is found, spray fi ngerprint developing powder (5) onto
it, but take particular care not to damage the fi ngerprint
(as shown in Figure 1).
Step 2:
Figure 3
Reveal the fi ngerprint
Use the blower pump (1) to blow away the developing
powder sprayed onto the fi ngerprint gently (as shown in
Figure 2). This shows the shape of the fi ngerprint

Collect the fi ngerprint from the „crime scene“
Choose the most complete fi ngerprints and collect
them using the transparent stickers (4). Procedure:
Stick the adhesive side of the transparent sticker onto
the area with the fi ngerprint, press the sticker down
hard and then take it off. Stick the sticker onto the block
on the fi ngerprint „crime scene“ card (6) (as shown in
Figure 3) and then write the place and time on the back
of the sample card.
Step 4:
Making fi ngerprint record cards
You can make fi ngerprint record cards for yourself and
your family members to keep your fi ngerprint patterns.
You can also compare and categorize them by the
following 8 basic patterns:
(1) Plain arc
(2) Tented arc
(3) Ulnar loop
(4) Radial loop
(5) Plain curl
(6) Central curl
(7) Double loop curl
(8) Incomplete whorl
Step 5:
You can use the ink pad (2) and fi ngerprint record cards
(7) supplied with the set for making fi ngerprint cards.
Record the name, age, time, left-hand or right-hand,
special fi ngerprint characteristics and other data on
each card.
How to record the whole fi ngerprint
(as shown in Figures 4 and 5)
Wash your hand clean and dry it. Start from the index
fi nger of the right hand. Open the transparent cover of
the ink pad. Press each fi nger onto the sponge of the
ink pad and roll it from side to side. Then, press the ink-
stained fi nger gently onto the fi ngerprint record card.
Do this for the index fi nger, middle fi nger, ring fi nger
and little fi nger in turn. As you press down, place the
end joint of your fi nger horizontally and then roll it from
side to side before lifting your fi nger off the card.
