Troubleshooting
Table 1: General Troubleshooting Guide.

Dairy PC not running Verify that the dairy PC has power, is turned on and that the
StepMetrix User Interface Software application has been
running for at least 30 minutes since the last milking.
No SMX data
Power supply problem See Power Supply Troubleshooting (Table 1f)
Cows walking in groups Insure that cows are not being hurried over the StepMetrix
sensor module as this may cause them to walk in groups
and generate zero SMX scores.
Load cell errors See load cell Troubleshooting (Table 1c)
Too many zero SMX

Load cell calibration errors See StepMetrix Calibration Troubleshooting (Table 1b)
Missing cow data
from network

“StepMetrix is unable to connect to any units at this
time. Please check your cable connections and try
again”.
Battery errors Battery errors in the diagnostics report a. Check battery for loose connections.
b. If battery missing or reversed, correct the condition.
c. If battery capacity is less than 50%, replace the
battery. See service section for instructions
StepMetrix or load
cell calibration errors
Load cell Warning or Failure
messages during the StepMetrix
calibration procedure or diagnostics
check.

StepMetrix Status
Indicator LED is not

Verify that the StepMetrix controller is
operational.
Reboot the StepMetrix controller as follows:
a. Press the reset button on the power board. See
Figure 22 for location.
b. Turn off the breaker to the power supply box. Wait
for 30 seconds and turn on the breaker to the
power supply box. The controller should reboot and
the light should begin flashing within 2 minutes.
c. Failure of the light to begin flashing after 5 minutes
may indicate a problem with the hard drive or the
control assembly.
d. If the problem persists, see Power Supply
Troubleshooting Table 1f.
Fan status
Low fan RPM
Fan is failing or not working a. Look for loose connections
b. If the fan RPM is less than 1750 RPM, replace the
fan. See Section 7.
StepMetrix controller
does not turn on
Discharge resistor is connected to J44
of power board.
Disconnect discharge resistor from J44. See Figure (see
Figure 14b [BM] or 26 [ISO] ) for location.
