Cause
Remedy
Fault:
no or insufficient hot potable water.
Immersion heater
(accessory) not
working.
▶ Check cables to make sure they are
correctly connected.
▶ Check that the thermostat has been
inserted far enough (contacts must not be
bent).
▶ Check whether the high limit safety cut-out
on the thermostat has been triggered.
▶ Check whether the set temperature at the
thermostat is high enough (see scale).
▶ Measure the resistance of the heating
element. If it has short-circuited, replace
heating element.
Insufficient solar yield
since the DHW was last
drawn off.
▶ Check whether the capacity of the system is
sufficient to meet the DHW demand.
Integrate a backup system to cope with the
demand.
Excessive heat losses
at the pipework.
▶ Pipework too long. Position the system so
that the pipework/cables are as short as
possible.
▶ Install sufficient installation on the DHW
line to the consumer.
Pipework swapped
round.
▶ Check pipework.
Collectors are still
misty after 4 hours
despite intensive solar
radiation.
▶ Remedy insufficient ventilation: clean vents
on the collector connections, e.g. with a
thin nail.
Solar hose buckled or
installed incorrectly.
▶ Install solar hoses between collector and
cylinder with an incline towards the
cylinder and with a sufficiently large radius.
Incorrect orientation
of collector.
▶ Align collectors so they are facing the
midday sun.
Heavy soiling of
collector panel.
▶ Clean collector panels with water when the
sun is not shining. Never use acetone or
glass cleaner.
Collectors are in the
shade.
▶ Remove shading of collectors.
Fault:
potable water too hot - risk of scalding.
Solar yields are too
great which means
that temperatures
higher than 60 °C are
reached.
▶ To avoid scalding, install mixing device and
set limit at 60 °C.
Fault:
heat transfer medium discharged frequently from the pressure
relief valve.
Maximum temperature
band reached.
▶ Take system out of operation during long
periods of absence.
▶ Deactivate the immersion heater
(accessory) outside the heating period and
during summer.
Fault:
loss of potable water or heat transfer medium
Leaks at the collector
connection.
▶ Hose clip mounted incorrectly Hose clip not
pushed over the bead of the collector
connection.
▶ Hose clip not secured. Tighten circlip if
hose clip is sitting correctly.
Discharge of potable
water from the
pressure relief valve.
Discharge of potable water at the pressure
relief valve due to different densities is normal.
▶ Install an on-site expansion vessel on the
cold water connection.
▶ Systematically remove water leaks.
Leaks from using non-
approved thread
sealing compound.
▶ Use temperature-resistant thread sealing
compound.
Leaks at the cylinder
connections.
▶ Check whether seals have been installed.
▶ Check whether seals are damaged. Only
screw on connector pipes hand tight then
turn again through ½ revolution
(corresponds to roughly 35 Nm).
Frost damage in the
solar circuit.
▶ Replace heat transfer medium if pH value is
≤ 7 (brown colour, strong odour).
Frost damage in
potable water circuit.
▶ Protect potable water pipe from frost
