Localisation of Objects
For the localisation of an object, move the unit in the direction of travel
until the outer edge
h
of the unit is exactly over the middle
k
of the ob-
ject found. The object is then located exactly under the corresponding
outer edge of the unit. The position of the object can then be marked
at the edge of the unit (Figure
).
The marking can also be done using the aligning aid
9
in the middle of
the unit (Figure
, referenced to the middle line
i
).
Changing the Measurement Indication
When the unit is placed on the wall, switching between three different
operating modes and thereby the three different measurement displays
can be made by longer pressing of the
“mode”
button
8
(at least
2 seconds). By the selection of the operating mode, it is possible to
adapt the unit to the condition of the concrete. The setting selected
(mode 1, mode 2 or mode D) can be seen in the display at any time.
* A measurement is possible five days after the pouring of the concrete at the ear-
liest.
When searching for objects, it is best to begin in mode D. In this mode,
the measuring signal is displayed without processing. All objects as
well as all irregularities in the concrete are displayed as peaks in the
measurement curve. When an object is found in mode D (peak in the
measurement curve), a switch to mode 1 (for dry concrete) or mode 2
(for wet concrete) should be made. The depth of the object can be read
out only in mode 1 or mode 2.
The width of weak objects (e.g., empty plastic pipes) can be estimated
more accurately in mode D, the width of stronger objects (e.g., metal
frames) more exact in mode 1 or. mode 2.
Changing the Measurement Sensitivity
In mode 1 and mode 2, the sensitivity of the measurement indication
can be changed. The current value
c
can be seen at all times in the
display. The higher the measurement sensitivity is set, the more hidden
or smaller objects are indicated. At the same time, non-homogeneous-
ness in the concrete appears as objects that would be filtered out dur-
ing the signal processing at a lower measurement sensitivity.
The measuring sensitivity in mode 1 and mode 2 can be increased at
any time by briefly pressing the
“mode”
button
8
. When the highest
step is reached (seven black bars in the display
c
), an additional press-
ing sets the sensitivity again to the lowest step.
It is recommended to work with the lowest possible measuring sensi-
tivity and to increase it only when the objects searched for cannot be
found.
In mode D, the measuring sensitivity cannot be changed. The value set
in mode 1 or mode 2 applies also after changing to mode D.
mode Application
1
Dry concrete (the concrete is at least one month old)
2
Wet concrete (the concrete is between five days* and one
month old)
D
“Direct-mode”: Instead of the depth to the object, the
strength of the measurement signal is displayed
