Steam-jet cleaners/high-pressure
cleaners
If you use steam-jet cleaners or high-
pressure cleaners, make sure you main-
tain an adequate distance and a maximum tem-
perature of 60

.
If the distance is inadequate or the pressure or
temperature too high, parts of the vehicle can
be damaged or water can penetrate. Comply
with the instructions for the steam-jet cleaner
or high-pressure cleaner.
<
When using high-pressure cleaners, do
not spray sensors or cameras, such as
those of the Park Distance Control or Rear View
Camera, for extended periods, and maintain a
distance of at least 30 cm, approx. 1 ft.
<
Washing by hand
To wash the vehicle by hand, use a lot of water
and, possibly, car shampoo. Clean the vehicle
with a sponge or washing brush, applying only
light pressure.
Before cleaning the windscreen, disable
the rain sensor or switch off the ignition to
prevent inadvertent wiping.
<
Comply with local regulations for washing
vehicles by hand.
<
Headlights
Do not rub them dry nor use caustic or abrasive
cleaning agents.
Soak dirt or other deposits, e.g. dead insects,
with shampoo or insect remover and wash
down with plenty of water.
Use a de-icer spray to remove ice deposits, not
a scraper or other hard tool.
Windows
Use window cleaning agent to clean the outer
and inner surfaces of the windows as well as the
mirror glass.
Do not use cleaning agents that contain
quartz to clean mirror glass.
<
Care of paintwork
Regular care contributes to retaining the value
of your vehicle and protects the paint against
the long-term effects of substances that dam-
age paint.
Regional environmental factors may have
adverse effects on the vehicle's paintwork and
damage it. This is why it is important to adapt
the frequency and extent of vehicle care
accordingly.
Remove particularly aggressive substances,
e.g. spilled fuel, oil, grease, brake fluid, tree
resin or bird droppings immediately, as other-
wise the paint can be damaged.
Removing paint damage
Depending on the severity of the damage,
touch up stone impact damage or
scratches immediately to prevent the formation
of rust.
<
BMW recommends having paint damage
removed by means of repair painting in line with
accepted technical principles and workshop
regulations with original BMW paint materials.
Sealing
Sealing is required when water no longer drips
off the clean paint finish. Only use agents that
contain carnauba or synthetic waxes for paint
sealing.
Rubber seals
Treat only with water or rubber protection coat-
ing agent.
Do not use any silicone-based care prod-
ucts for treating rubber seals, as these
could otherwise be damaged and become a
source of noise.
<
Chrome parts
Carefully clean parts such as the radiator grille,
door handles or window frames with plenty of
water and shampoo additive, especially when-
ever the car is exposed to the effects of road
salt. Use chrome polish to buff up these parts.
