102
the car's operating safety may be endangered
and the construction and use regulations
infringed.
Heavy or hard objects should not be carried
loose inside the car, since they could be dis-
lodged, for example by heavy braking, sudden
avoiding action or similar, and endanger the
occupants.
Use only the lashing eyes that are illustrated to
secure lashing straps. Do not secure any
objects with the upper attachment points for
ISOFIX, see page
, as otherwise these could
be damaged.

Roof rack*
A special roof rack system is available as an
optional accessory for your BMW. Please
observe the directions contained in the installa-
tion instructions.
Mounting points
Open the cover.
Loading the roof rack
A loaded roof rack alters the car's road behav-
iour and steering response quite considerably,
by moving its centre of gravity.
When loading the roof rack, ensure that the
specified roof load limit, the car's gross weight
limit and the axle loads are not exceeded.
The relevant figures are shown in the Weights
section on page
.
The roof load must be distributed uniformly and
should not be too large in area. Heavy items
should always be placed at the bottom. Make
sure that there is sufficient clearance for raising
the glass roof and that no objects extend back
into the movement range of the tailgate.
Correct, secure loading of the roof rack will pre-
vent items from shifting or falling off during the
journey.
Drive smoothly and avoid violent acceleration,
braking or cornering.
Towing a trailer
The trailer load limit is given on page
.
Cap/power socket for trailer*
On the floorpan. Before installing the tow hitch:
pull the cap down and off.
Trailer tow hitch*
Vehicles built with a factory-installed trailer tow
hitch come with the standard equipment of
reinforced springs at the rear axle and, depend-
ing on the vehicle model, with a more powerful
engine cooling system.
Look after the detachable ball head in accord-
ance with the enclosed manufacturer's operat-
ing instructions, to ensure that it can be fitted
and removed without difficulty.
Location
The detachable ball head is stowed underneath
the floor mat in the luggage area.
Installing and removing
The enclosed manufacturer's operating
instructions describe the installation and
removal of the ball head.
