Switching off ignition
Turn ignition key to position 1 .
Light switched off.
Steering lock is not locked.
The ignition key can now be
removed.

The motorcycle's electronics
monitor the data stored in the ig-
nition key through a ring antenna
incorporated in the ignition switch
/ steering lock. The engine con-
trol unit does not enable engine
start until this key has been rec-
ognized as "authorized" for your
motorcycle.
NOTICE
An additional ignition key at-
tached to the same ring as the
ignition key used to start the en-
gine could "irritate" the electron-
ics, in which case the enabling
signal for the engine start is not
issued.
Always keep the ignition keys
separate from each other.
If you lose an ignition key, you
can have it disabled by your au-
thorized BMW Motorrad retailer.
When having a key disabled you
should also bring all of the mo-
torcycle's remaining ignition keys
with you. The engine can no
longer be started using a dis-
abled ignition key; however, a
disabled ignition key can be en-
abled again.
Spare keys are available
only through an authorized
BMW Motorrad retailer. The
ignition keys are part of an
integrated safety system, so the
retailer is under an obligation
to check the legitimacy of all
applications for spare keys.
