RIMS
Checking rims
Park the vehicle, making sure
that the ground is firm and
level.
Visually inspect rims for de-
fects.
Have damaged rims checked
and, if necessary, renewed
by a specialist workshop,
preferably an authorized
BMW Motorrad retailer.
WHEELS
Effect of wheel sizes on
suspension control systems
The wheel sizes play an im-
portant role with suspension
control systems such as DTC.
The diameter and width of the
wheels stored in the control
unit have particular significance
as the basis for all necessary
calculations. A change in these
sizes resulting from conversion
to wheels not installed as stan-
dard equipment can seriously
affect the control efficiency of
these systems.
The sensor rings required for
wheel speed detection must
also match the installed con-
trol systems and may not be
replaced.
If you want to convert your
motorcycle to different wheels,
please contact a specialist
workshop, preferably a
BMW Motorrad retailer. In
some cases the data stored
in the control units must be
adapted to the new wheel
sizes.
Removing the front wheel
Place the motorcycle
on an auxiliary stand;
BMW Motorrad recommends
the BMW Motorrad rear-
wheel stand.
Installing rear-wheel stand
176).

rim that could get scratched
in the process of removing
the brake calipers.
Detach the wheel speed sen-
sor cable from the holding
clips

and
2
.
Remove the screw

and
wheel speed sensor from the
hole.
