8 Operation
8.1 Before you switch on the AIRSKIN® System
Ensure that:
• AIRSKIN® is free of collisions, i.e. is touching neither superstructures nor a wall, and is not touched by any
other objects (tools, etc.),
• the AIRSKIN® Safetyflange is in its non-deflected rest position,
• the AIRSKIN® Safetyflange can be deflected as prescribed,
• no AIRSKIN® Pad is visibly damaged,
• all the AIRSKIN® Pads are fixed as prescribed,
• each AIRSKIN® Set is connected to the respective AIRSKIN® Connection Box,
• each AIRSKIN® Connection Box is connected to the appropriate safety IOs of the robot/system and a
+ 24 V DC
direct current supply is connected,
• all the cables between the AIRSKIN® Pads are connected as prescribed.
Pay attention to safety instructions!
AIRSKIN® cannot function properly if it is not free of collisions when it is switched on.
8.2 Switching on the AIRSKIN® System
The AIRSKIN® System is switched on as soon as it is supplied with
+ 24 V DC
, e.g. typically by switching on the
robot controller. Immediately after switching on, each AIRSKIN® Pad undergoes an initialization phase which lasts
for 0 to a maximum of 20 seconds. During this initialization phase, a soft whistling noise can be noticed coming
from the respective AIRSKIN® Pad. Once initialization of all the AIRSKIN® Pads has been completed, AIRSKIN®
is ready for operation and both control LEDs on the AIRSKIN® Connection Box will emit a constant green light.
8.3 Switching off AIRSKIN®
AIRSKIN® is switched off by disconnecting the power supply, e.g. typically by switching off the robot controller.
