update-filesystem
Description
The
update-filesystem
command downloads a new file system from an FTP server to the ETEP. This
command performs a software upgrade, and merges the current appliance configuration with the upgraded
file system upon reboot. This preserves the appliance configuration including the management IP address,
passwords, and other settings.
In addition to loading new software on an appliance, the
update-filesystem
command preserves a backup
copy of the old file system and configuration.

Usage Guidelines
Do not use the following invalid characters in the FTP user name or password: @ : ? # < > &
This command requires a reboot to take effect. Rebooting immediately after an upgrade is strongly
recommended. Any changes that are made between the upgrade and subsequent reboot will be lost when
the appliance reboots. This includes changes to policies and keys (including scheduled rekeys),
certificates, and appliance configuration.
The software prevents simultaneous upgrades on an appliance. Once an upgrade is complete, but prior to
reboot, the software prevents another upgrade until a reboot is issued.
Example
The following example loads a new file system from FTP host 192.168.1.124 to the ETEP using SFTP as
the file transfer protocol.
