EMERALD GREEN DISTORTION MACHINE OWNER´S MANUAL
Thank you for choosing the Emerald Green Distortion Machine!
Short description: This is a distortion/ booster pedal intended for use between a low-level
instrument such as an electric guitar and an amplifier set for clean to moderate distortion.
EGDM was specifically designed to get a distorted tone with a compressed feel to a point
where compression feel is more evident than distortion depth as in certain amplifiers.
This is done by use of a specific amplifier overload function and a slight ’ducking’ effect
can be noticed with high input levels. A specific eq curve is also used to complement this
tone.
Here are some typical settings and information on how to get the most out of the EGD.
The controls are:
- DIST, which sets the amount of distortion and sustain and harmonic content.
A good starting point for this control is a bit below center (eleven o’clock).
- VOICE, that sets the frequency range in which distortion shall take place. Turn CCW for
more emphasis in the bass and low-mids and turn CW to soften output slightly.
Notice that most flat setting of this control depends on setting of DIST and that bass
response can be enhanced through CCW rotation. This control is aimed to set pedal
response throughout all settings.
Set VOICE almost full CCW with DIST in full CCW to begin with and unit can be used as a
booster. Advance VOICE as DIST is advanced. It is recommended that some time is spent
with the controls to get a feel for the interaction of the controls. As a rule VOICE and DIST
go CCW and VOL CW or vice verse. In multiple-drive (chained pedals) systems EGDM
usually works best early on in chain though some drive pedals work well at overloading
EGDM.
- VOL. sets the balance between processed signal and nonprocessed. A good starting
point for this control is halfway below center (nine o’clock).
Input performance: The unit has high input impedance presenting only a light load to the
pickups, and the volume control on the guitar can be used as an auxiliary drive.
Output performance: The output is designed to work into medium impedance such as
that of a guitar amplifier and most effect boxes and tape echoes.
Power requirements: The unit is designed to work from a 6F22 9V battery contained
in the box (you gain access by removing the four bottom screws) CAUTION! Never
operate the unit with its bottom removed or damage will most likely occur.
The current-draw is in the approximately 3 mA with the pilot LED lit, and 2 mA with-
out, hence the expected battery life will be about 36 hours. If sound gets muddy or LED
light dim it’s time to change battery.
EGD has a trimmer inside. This allows trimming of treble.
Consider this trimmer a “set and forget trim” - use only to match to amp once and for all.
About the 5 year limited warranty: Should you for any reason want to claim this then pack
the unit well and enclose a description of the fault and a copy of the original receipt, an
