Codes and scanning rules

You can print barcodes on labels. A data field on standard labels and up to seven data
fields on customer labels are available. Which article data are to be printed as a barcode
on the labels, can be defined in the code structure rules. Code structure rules can be
saved under code structure numbers and can be allocated to the data fields in the article
data.

Important terms for barcodes

left bright zone:

Free zone on the left of the first dark bar of the barcode. This
bright zone may not be printed, as it is needed by the reading
devices to identify the barcode.

right bright zone:

Free zone on the right of the last dark bar of the barcode, see
left bright zone.

Module width:

The module width is the width of the smallest barcode bar.
Each code-bar is generated from integer multiple of the narrow-
est code-bar element.

Ratio:

The ratio only applies for code families with two differnt bar
widths.

Line for optical charac-
ters:

The optical characters line is the readable layout of the code
content under the actual barcode.

Middle check digit:

The middle check digit can be selected in most codes. It is cal-
culated based upon the code content that is behind the check
digit (4 to 6 digits). The calculation depends on the respective
code type.

Manufacturer number

E. g national company number (bbn), prespecified by the Zen-
trale for Coorganisation [Head Office for Coorganization].

Article number

A unique number for an article at company level. This can be
specified by the manufacturer.

Code structure:

Code structure: Describes how the code is put together - from
one or more subelements. The subelements in a code can be
flexibly combined within the framework of the maximum code
length. Examples of subelements are:

the calculated price

–

the date set

–

a preset constant

Code part string:

With code part strings in code structure you can integrate varia-
ble, numeric and alphanumeric data like article and manufactur-
er number into the code. Depending on the article or manufac-
turer the values are maintained in the article data for the re-
spective code part string.
