Connecting the Uni-Probe 

If cables have already been connected to the Uni-Probe, then 

please keep in mind:

Danger, electric shock!

Open the housing cover of the Uni-Probe only after the device, pos-
sibly connected relay contacts and all in- and outputs have been 
disconnected from power.

Explosion hazard!

Never open the cover or keep it open in an explosive atmosphere. 
Make sure, therefore, that no explosive atmosphere is present. 

Otherwise, wait for 30 minutes after you have turned off the power 
supply before you open the housing. The cooling-off time of 30 
minutes ensures that possibly overheated components have 

enough time to cool off and cannot ignite the explosive atmo-
sphere.

Connect the device to the power supply only after:

•

all cables have been connected

•

the cable have been passed properly through the cable glands

•

the cover has been placed onto the housing to close it. Screw 
the housing cover completely onto the housing and pull it tight 
using a torque of 25Nm (reference value).

Before closing, make sure that the threads are clean and greased 
with OKS 217. See also Volume 1, "11.5 Material Safety Data 

Sheet for Lubricant OKS 217" on page 1–113.

For installation, please keep in mind

•

Connect the cables with special care. The connection line must 
comply with the applicable regulations and must have the 
required cross-section. The cross-section must match the infor-

mation stated on the cable conduit.

•

Through appropriate selection of the cables and the type of 
installation, make sure that maximum permissible wire temper-

atures will not be exceeded.

•

While installing the cable, make sure that mechanical damage 
of the wire isolation caused by sharp-edged or mobile metal 

parts is ruled out.

•

Make sure the cable is sufficiently long to be able to create a 
cable loop as strain relief in front of the housing entry.

Connect the Uni-Probe (one or several) according to the wiring dia-
gram (see Figure 3-4). The electrical terminals of the detector are 
located in the top section of the detector housing. They are acces-

sible after opening the cover (see Figure 3-1).
