
Open the package using aseptic pro-
cedures.
Place the catheter in situ. Remove
the trocar, secure the catheter, and
connect the catheter to the inlet
tubing.
1. To vacuum the system and
evacuate air from the operation
area, close the inlet clamp.
2. Compress the bellows.
3. Open the inlet clamp again.
Repeat steps 1–3 until blood
starts to flow, or the bellows
remain in a compressed,
vacuumed state.
4. Close the outlet clamp.
If tourniquet is used: To avoid
clotting, close the inlet clamp
after the last compression of the
bellows. Reopen the inlet clamp
to start collection approximately
15 minutes after the release of
the tourniquet.
5. Remove the protective cap from
the bag inlet.
6. Attach the Autotransfusion bag to
the outlet port of the bellows
using the screw connector.
7. Mark with the identity of the
patient, what time the collection
started, and definite time when the
collection should be terminated on
the bag (blood collection should
be completed within 6 hours of
the start of collection).
Hang the Bellovac
™
ABT in an upright
position, using the bed rail strap.
Send the Transfusion Set, with the
patient, to the postoperative ward.
