Installing a Stinger MS+

Control module connections

Inform your service provider that the equipment is connected, so they can activate
the line.

Control module connections

The control module provides the following ports and connections:

needed to connect the Stinger unit to a workstation or a console. See Appendix B,
“Cables and Connectors,” for console cable pinouts.

Each control module supports three types of network management connections for
communication with the Stinger unit:

■

A female DB-9 serial port, labeled DIAG PORT. This connector is used with an
RS-232 shielded straight-through cable (ITE6801), to a terminal for basic
configuration. See “Serial connection to a console” on page 5-2, for details about
this connection.

It can also be connected to an external modem for dial-in administrative access.
See “Backup management with an external modem” on page 5-3, for details of
this connection.

■

A female DB-15 connector labeled ALARM INPUT. This connector provides
access for connecting of up to 7 pairs of wires that monitor the alarm condition of
up to 7 external devices. See “Connecting a Stinger unit to monitor the alarm
status of other devices” on page 2-8, for details of this connection.

■

An RJ-11 jack that provides a connection for an external analog telephone line to
an optional internal modem. See “Backup management with an internal
modem” on page 5-5, for details of this connection.

Note

The optional internal modem is only available on Revision 2 control

module models B and C.

■

An RJ-45 connector that provides a 10BaseT or 100BaseT Ethernet network
connection through unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable. This connection can
provide access to an administrative network, and is not designed for end-user
data. See “Network connection to a workstation console” on page 5-2, for details
of this connection.
