NOTE:
This manual assumes that you have a duplex scanner. Separate procedures will be
indicated for simplex scanners where procedures are different.
The scanner uses internal cameras to capture and digitize both sides of a document in a
single pass through its paper path. This digital information is sent via the host computer to
various storage media, including magnetic and optical.
The scanner can scan both “controlled” and “uncontrolled” document types. Controlled
documents are uniform in size and do not require a lot of preparation such as sorting or
removal of staples. Uncontrolled documents (business cards, sticky notes, carbon copies,
and dog-eared paper) are rarely uniform. The scanner minimizes prep work by handling
controlled and uncontrolled documents alike.
The scanner adjusts itself to accommodate the size, volume, condition, and skew of each
document. The front of the scanner houses a control panel, containing 13 keys and a two
line status message and diagnostic operator interface display. Operation of the controls
and the meaning of the codes and messages are explained later in this manual.
The operator controls let you capture information from a wide variety of
foreground/background and color/intensity combinations. Although the scanner can
digitize a wide variety of documents, it has been designed to primarily handle text images.
