each other. As you take up the chain move the boat SLOWLY forward with the engines being careful
not to run over the chain.
Caution: Do not use the windlass to drag the boat forward to the anchor this can cause damage to the
windlass motor and clutch system.
The rode chain and anchor will likely come up muddy or dirty. Please use the hose in the foredeck wash
down locker to rinse off the chain and anchor. Turn on the wash-down pump from the pilot house
power panel, spray the chain and anchor to clean it as it comes in. PLEASE DON’T PUT THE CHAIN
AWAY MUDDY AS IT WILL LEAD TO A SMELLY, MUSTY BOAT. While some scents of the sea
are pleasantly memorable, this would not be one of those.
The Ultra anchor system has a self aligning swivel that will roll the anchor into the correct position.
Bring the last few feet of chain in slowly by tapping the switch so it moves in small increments so it
doesn’t slam into the hull or the bow roller and to allow the anchor time to rotate.
Caution: If you bring the anchor in fast and hard it can over tighten the windlass clutch, jam the anchor
against the pawls and trip the circuit breaker in the battery cabinet.
When the anchor is clear of the water and close up to the bow roller, it may be best to handle those last
few feet by hand with the extension pipe.
Attach the turnbuckle to secure the anchor against unintentional deployment.
Turn off the “windlass Power” switch.
A spare anchor, chain, and line are located in the starboard lazarette. This “lunch anchor” is for
emergencies; light sea conditions and is not adequate to hold the vessel by itself.
Trouble shooting the windlass: If the windlass fails to operate verify the power is on in the pilot house, if
the windlass was used to over draw on the anchor it may trip the windlass circuit breaker. This may be
reset at the battery panel port side next to the cockpit salon door. If the windlass is jammed (somebody
has over drawn in the windlass) try releasing the clutch wheel with the extension handle and pulling a
little chain up from the chain locker to cause slack.

Shut Down
Before shutting down, the engines should idle for about 5 minutes to let them cool. This is usually not an issue
as engines will be at idle for a sufficient period of time during docking maneuvers. Ensure that each gearshift is
in the neutral position and each throttle is in idle. Turn off the engines using the ignition keys.

Fueling
Sea Daze uses Diesel # 2 fuel. ONLY the skipper should fill fuel tanks being sure it is filled at the deck plates
labeled “Fuel”
and NOT “Water” or “Waste
”.
This error has been made by a number of well seasoned
skippers and will ruin a vacation and is expensive to remedy.
Make sure the fuel is indeed diesel and not gas (trace back to the pump). Each fuel tank must be fueled
separately as they do not cross fill to the other side.
Before pumping protect the environment and vessel from spills, fuel spills can bring very large fines. Attach an
overfill spill container over the vent for the tank you are filling. Overfill containers are stored in the starboard
