VAM-2 Vistor Alert Module

DESCRIPTION

The VAM-2 Visitor Alert Module provides the control electronics for a guard alert system for
prison inmate/attorney visitation rooms. An external Guard Control Switch, Door Position
switches, Guard Alert Lamp, and optional remote Ready LED are installed near the visitation
room and wired into the VAM-2. The VAM-2 will alert the guard and provide an alarm output
when the attorney has completed a visitation session with an inmate.

The module is 2.75 x 4.25 x 1.0 deep
(inches) installed. The module installs
into a user-supplied enclosure and in-
cludes all mounting hardware. On-board
status LEDs are provided for easier
installation and service. Relay outputs are
dry form-C contacts rated at 2 Amps.
Heavy duty wire clamp terminals are
provided for 14-24 ga wiring.

!

handling, wiring, or servicing the unit to avoid dam-
aging internal circuitry. Damage caused by the lack
of proper ESD precautions will void warranty.

CAUTION

The VAM-2 module uses static

sensitive electronic parts and is not user-ser-
viceable. Use proper ESD precautions when

INSTALLATION

Choose a location and drill (4) 0.187" (3/16") diameter holes to match the (4) corner holes in the
printed circuit board.  Push the nylon standoffs supplied into each hole and snap the module into
place over the standoffs. Complete system wiring as shown on the opposite page.

OPERATION

1. When 24 VDC is applied to the power input terminals, the green LED will be on.

2. When the Prisoner (Door A) Door Position Switch is closed, the yellow DR-A LED will be on.
If no door position switch is used for a Prisoner Door, place a jumper in the DR-A terminals.

3. When the Attorney (Door B) Door Position Switch is closed, the yellow DR-B LED will be on.
If no door position switch is used for a Attorney Door, place a jumper in the DR-B terminals.

4. When both Door A and Door B are closed, the yellow Ready LED will be on. A remote Ready
LED may be installed to signal the guard that the system is ready to be enabled.

5. When both doors are closed and the system is ready, the Enable Switch may be closed. When
the Enable Switch is closed, the yellow EN-SW LED will be on, the ALERT output relay will
energize, and the red ALERT output LED will be on.

6. If either of the doors are opened when the system is enabled, the ALERT relay and red LED
will flash, the ALARM relay will energize and the red ALARM LED will be on. These outputs
will latch in this state until reset by opening the Enable Switch.
