Getting Started 35
Wait after you
press standby
switch
Caution: Whenever you turn the scanner on or off, you must give the operating system
of the scanner PC enough time to save and recover open files and unsaved data.
Otherwise, a serious system failure may occur that requires technical support.
Wait to
unplug
Never unplug the scanner from the wall without turning off the standby switch and
waiting for its light to go out.
If you turn off the scanner without following the recommended procedure (for example,
if you unplug it while it is running), the next time you turn the scanner on, it may take a
longer time to start, and the scanner may be permanently damaged.
Checking the Date
Check that the date displayed on the screen is correct before you start scanning a new
patient (or at least at the beginning of each day).
One cause of an incorrect date is battery failure. The battery fails very rarely. If it
does fail, the scanner will usually not operate at all, so you will know to call a
technician. However, under certain unusual circumstances the scanner will operate,
but the date will be incorrectly set to a default date.
Adjusting the Brightness of the Screen
Your scanner may be used with different levels of room lighting. Whenever the
lighting changes significantly, you should recalibrate the screen brightness.
To calibrate the screen brightness:
1
Freeze the image.
2
Press
[
Alt+Shift+G
]
on the keyboard.
A series of gray bars appears on a black background.
3
Use the contrast button on the monitor to adjust the bars so that the 100% bar is
bright white and the 90% to 10% bars seem to decrease progressively in
brightness.
4
Use the brightness button on the monitor to increase the brightness until the 1%,
2% and 3% bars (above the 10% bar) become visible.
5
Use the brightness button to decrease the brightness until the background
becomes black and the 1% bar just disappears.
Adjusting the Reading Lights
After you have turned on the scanner, you can adjust the brightness of the 3 reading
lights under the CD drive. (See Fig 2-1.)
WARNING An incorrect date will make documentation of the image incorrect and may
also cause some calculated values to be incorrect.
