About the SPC device

The SPC power control device offers secure AC

power management for 4, 8 or 16 attached devices.

The SPC device can remotely control the power

on/off status for each attached device. The 8-port

and 16-port SPC devices also provide measurement

and reporting of the total combined load of all

devices for accurate load management.

Rack mounting - 8/16-port

vertical units

Attach a mounting bracket to the top flange of the

SPC device with one set of screws and washers

through each of the two slots in the bracket. Secure

each screw with a nut. The slots allow about 1/2 inch

of vertical adaptability. Repeat with the other mounting

bracket on the bottom flange of the SPC device.

Attach the top and bottom brackets to your rack,

using the round holes in each bracket. The round

holes in each bracket may not align with the mounting

holes in your rack. You may use only one screw and

washer set per bracket to secure the SPC device

to your rack, as long as both top and bottom brackets

are attached to the rack.

Rack mounting - 8/16-port

horizontal units

Select the appropriate mounting bracket point for

proper depth within the rack on one side and attach

a mounting bracket with two screws. Repeat with

the other bracket on the other side of the unit.

Install the unit in your rack, using the slots in each bracket.

The slots allow about 1/4 inch of horizontal adaptability

to align with the rack’s mounting holes.

Rack mounting - 4-port units

A 4-port unit may be aligned horizontally or vertically in

your rack. Following the instructions in the SPC

Installer/User guide, attach a mounting bracket on each

end of the unit, then attach the brackets to the rack.

Connecting the SPC device to the

CPS serial over IP network appliance

Connect either end of the supplied RJ-45 cable to the

SPC device. Connect the other end to a CPS

appliance port.

Connecting to a power source

Depending on the model, units are shipped with different

power cord configurations. Units with an attached power

cord and plug may be directly connected to the power

source. Units shipped with a detachable power cord must

have the cord attached to the unit before connection to

the power source. Units with an attached power cord but

without a plug require selection and installation of the

appropriate plug by qualified service personnel before

connection to the power source.

To connect a detachable power cord to the

SPC device:

Plug the female end of the power cord firmly into its

connector at the base of the SPC device. Use a Phillips

screwdriver to tighten the screws on the retention bracket.

To connect the SPC device to a power source

(115/230V ):

Plug the male end of the SPC device power cord into

the AC power source. Each port powers up sequentially,

with a two-second delay between each port.

 Connecting devices to the

SPC unit

To avoid the possibility of noise due to arcing:

Keep the device’s on/off switch in the off position until

after it is plugged into the SPC port.

-or-

Log in to the SPC unit and turn ports off before connecting

the devices. After connecting the devices to the unit, turn

them on using an SPC interface.

Connect devices to the SPC ports.

To attach retention clips (units with IEC

outlets only):

For each clip, pull the open prongs out slightly and insert

them into the holes on the sides of the SPC unit adjacent

to the port. Insert the device’s power cord, then gently

snap the retention clip over the cord.

WARNING: The SPC unit and all attached devices

should be powered down before servicing the unit. Always

disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet.
