DMNG System Overview
The DMNG system, Digital Mobile News Gathering, is a video uplink solution designed by
AVIWEST to stream live and recorded video content over various network connections.
Dedicated to stream videos over satellite connections using a portable satellite broadband
terminal such as BGAN, THURAYA or KA-SAT, the DMNG PRO100 can also stream over other
networks: Wide Area Network (WAN), Local Area Network (LAN) or Wi-Fi. The DMNG
ecosystem includes at least two types of products:
field units, like the DMNG PRO transmitter,
DMNG Studio receivers.
A DMNG ecosystem can also include a DMNG Manager, which is the server application
designed to monitor and manage the entire DMNG ecosystem.
The DMNG PRO100 transmitter captures, encodes and transmits live or recorded videos. The
DMNG Studio receives, decodes, stores and broadcasts video files.
Based on the use of IP networks, the DMNG system makes the most out of the available
connections to stream a video from anywhere in the world to a Studio receiver.
The DMNG PRO can stream over various networks or satellite networks using one of these
transport protocols:
, MPEG Transport Stream over UDP, also called
".
Thanks to its cutting-edge H.264 dual encoder, the DMNG PRO allows using two distinct
video resolutions for its main functions: Live and Store. The DMNG PRO can adapt
automatically and dynamically the video resolution to stream a live with the highest video
resolution possible according to the networks performance in real-time. Meanwhile, the
resolution adopted for the Store function only depends on the profile selected.
To ensure a reliable transmission and therefore enhance the video quality, the DMNG PRO
combines a proprietary bonding technology and a "Forward Error Correction" algorithm, also
called
. The bonding of multiple wireless and wire network connections aims to increase
the available bandwidth. In mono-link connections, the bonding stack also aims to secure the
link. Moreover, the FEC mechanism adds redundant data to a support stream to rebuild
packets in case of packet loss. The FEC therefore allows minimal break-up.
