Saving Drafting Views to an External Project
Use the following procedure to save drafting views to an external Revit Architecture project for use in another
Revit Architecture project. You can also use this procedure to save sheet views and schedule views to an
external project. For information on sheet views and schedule views, see
on page 1030 and
on page 172.
1
Select a drafting view in the Project Browser.
2
Right-click the view name, and click Save to New File.
3
Enter a new name for the project.
This creates a new Revit Architecture project file that contains the selected view and the contents
of that view.
Inserting a Drafting View from Another Project
1
Click Insert tab
➤
Import panel
➤
Insert from File drop-down
➤
Insert Views from File.
2
In the Open dialog, select a project file, and click Open.
The Insert Views dialog opens, which displays views that are saved in the project.
3
From the list, select an option for views to display.
4
Select the views to insert, and click OK.
Revit Architecture creates a new drafting view with all the 2D components and text. If you have
duplicate type names, the type name and properties from the current project are used, and a

Creating Details
After you have created a view for detailing, you can use additional resources provided with Revit Architecture
to create details and complete the view for inclusion in construction documents. For information on creating
views for detailing, see
on page 1134.
Detailing Library
You can add additional detail components by loading them from the family library, or you can create or
edit existing ones in the Family Editor. Click on the Detail Components folder, and then select the appropriate
CSI (Construction Specifications Institute) section to see specific components under that section.
Revit Architecture contains over 500 Detail Component Families. They are organized by the 16 CSI divisions.
Inserting a Detail Component
The Detail Component tool places a detail component into a detail or drafting view. A detail component is
visible in that view only. You can keynote detail components. See
on page 1117.
