Creating Symbol Definitions
|
175
To replace an existing symbol with a new definition
1
Select the entities from which you want to create a symbol.
2
In the Content Librarian, click the Symbol page tab, then click the Create
Symbol button at the bottom of the page. The Create Symbol Definition
dialog box appears.
3
Enter a symbol name in the Name text box.
4
Select a method for entering the basepoint from the Basepoint drop-down
list box.
5
(optional) Check the Save In Library check box to store the symbol in a
library.
6
(optional) To change the library in which the symbol is stored, click
Browse. The Open Symbol Library dialog box appears. Click an existing
library name or create a new one by clicking the Create New Folder button
and entering a library name, then click Open.
7
Click Next.
8
(optional) Enter a type and description for the symbol in the correspond-
ing text boxes.
9
(optional) Enter a hyperlink in the corresponding text box. For more
information on hyperlinks, see the chapter titled “Using Web Tools,”
which begins on page 351.
10
Click Finish.
11
(optional) If the symbol name you entered already exists in the current
drawing, the Create Symbol Definition – Symbol Already Exists dialog box
appears. To replace the existing symbol with the one you just created, click
Yes. However, if you want to change the name of the symbol you just
created, click No and change the symbol’s name.
12
(optional) If you chose the Basepoint Select After OK option, the Create
Symbol Definition – Finish dialog box appears, reminding you to define
the symbol basepoint.
13
Click Finish.
If your drawing has other fields established, you can add values for those
fields to symbols that you create. When you place these symbols, they
automatically update the drawing’s database.
If you save a new symbol to a library, then insert it in a different drawing, the
fields may not exist. In such a case, AutoSketch adds them to the drawing. If
the drawing contains fields with the same name but with a different type
than those fields in the symbol, AutoSketch uses the drawing’s field type to
convert the value stored in the symbol.
