Adverse events
The following are possible risks associated with
the use of LaryTube Sizer Kit:
• Transfer of disease(s). In order to reduce the
risk, use appropriate hygienic procedures.
Clean, disinfect, dry and steam sterilize the
Sizer LaryTube and individual storage box.
• Use of wrong size Sizer LaryTube during sizing
procedure. To reduce the risk, make sure that
the correct Sizer LaryTube is packaged in its
correct position as indicated in the bottom of
the outer storage box.
Instructions for use
Checkout procedures
Do not use the LaryTube Sizer Kit if the package
is damaged or the tamper seal has been opened.
Check that correct size(s), as listed with the
product, are available in the Sizer Kit.
Make sure that the Sizer Kit has been cleaned
and sterilized as appropriate.
Always ensure mechanical integrity of the
LaryTube before each use.
Removing the Sizer from the outer
storage box
First remove the individual storage box with
the Sizer from the outer storage box without
contaminating the remaining LaryTubes, individual
storage boxes, and outer storage box (Figure 1). Then
remove the Sizer from its individual storage box.
Choosing the right Provox
LaryTube
There is a wide variety in stoma shapes and
diameters that are suitable for LaryTube use.
In any case, the proper fit may result from trying
out several sizes.
Diameter
The goal is to create a comfortable and airtight fit
between the Provox LaryTube and the tracheostoma.
Measure the size of the tracheostoma (largest
diameter) with a ruler and fit the Provox LaryTube
accordingly.
Length
By trying different lengths of the Sizers, the most
suitable length for the individual patient can be
chosen.
Different types of LaryTubes
The LaryTube is available in three versions:
• The Fenestrated version, designed for use
in combination with a voice prosthesis.
Several small fenestrations are preferred
over a single large one to avoid locking and
accidental dislocation of the voice prosthesis.
• The Standard version, made for use without a
voice prosthesis or when customized fenestration
is preferred.
• The LaryTube with Ring version, to be worn with
an adhesive base plate. This is recommended if
a cannula is only used during the night, or if
attachment by means of an adhesive is preferred
over other attachments such as a Provox
TubeHolder or Provox LaryClip.
Fenestration
The LaryTube comes both pre-fenestrated (the
Fenestrated version), or can be fenestrated
individually (the Standard version or the version
with Ring, see LaryTube manual).
If the patient uses a voice prosthesis or shunt
phonation, the LaryTube can be fenestrated
for optimal airf low and functionality for
tracheoesophageal voicing. Please see the LaryTube
Manual for instructions on how to fenestrate a
LaryTube.
Cleaning and sterilization
For the Sizer LaryTubes and the individual storage
boxes: Clean, disinfect and steam sterilize the
Sizers and their individual storage boxes separately.
Put the individual storage box upside down
during cleaning in washer-disinfector and during
sterilization. Read the “Instructions for cleaning
and sterilization”. If this information is missing,

The outer storage box has been tested to withstand
the alkaline detergent; Suma Med Super LpH
®
(Johnson Diversey) and the disinfectant; Gigasept
®
Instru AF (Schülke&Mayr). Cleaning and
disinfection of the separated outer storage box
and size indicating sheet can be performed with
this detergent and disinfectant according to the
methods described in the “Instructions for cleaning
and sterilization”.
