5.3 Configuring the Listen-in Function
There are a number of options for IP based listen-in functionality. The MPS software at the time of
publication (V1.5.13) does not support the standard ASL IP listen-in function. However, it does support a
listen-in GUI which operates by selecting one of a number of permanently streamed listen-in sources, one
per zone. This listen-in option can only be used with iPA400 and iPAM400, and is described below.
The MPS microphone can listen in to zones through PMC streams generated by a VIPA device. A VIPA
device can provide the required PMC streams using two methods as described below.

PMC Broadcaster method:
The low level audio output from a VIPA device is wired to any available audio input on a remote (or on
the VIPA device) which is only used to generate the static PMC stream; see

Pass Through and PMC Broadcaster method:
The low level audio output is wired to any available audio input of a remote VIPA device.
This audio input is then passed through to an output and also used to generate the static PMC stream;

The audio output is connected to the speakers in the allocated zone.
When a listen-in button on the MPS microphone is activated, the audio from one of these PMC streams will
be routed to the microphone built-in speaker and to the audio output (3.5 mm jack) which can be connected
to a headphone or external speaker.
IMPORTANT:
The listen-in function must be configured on the VIPA Device and on the microphone’s XML configuration
file; see Section “3 MPS Microphone Configuration” (page 11).
