Check the device prior to use
Prior to each use, check the blade, protection skirt, ejection
rubber, drive and fastening parts, cables and cable connec-
tions for proper working condition and firm seating by visual
inspection.
Never use the device if covers, impact protection, ejection
rubber or protection skirt are defective or not mounted.
Do not remove, change or override any safety devices or
control elements.
Observe the maintenance instructions and replace damaged
or worn parts immediately.
Have an authorised service centre check the device if the
blade does not stop within 5 seconds after being switched off.
Check the parking brake for proper function (see mainten-
ance).
Danger area
Fig. 8:
Within the danger area of the device, there is a risk of death.
The rotating blade can cause injuries and objects can be
thrown out. The area in front of and to the right of the device
is especially dangerous.
On slopes, the device can tip over and slide towards persons
or run them over.
Make sure
– that nobody else is in the area that will be mowed.
– that people are never positioned in the direction of travel in
front of the device.
– that nobody is positioned on the slope below the device.
– that you have a complete overview of the danger area at all
times.
– that you keep your hands and feet away from the rotating
parts.
Fire hazard
Parts of the device can become extremely hot during opera-
tion and this may cause fire.
– Carry a sufficient amount of suitable extinguishing media.
– Observe the device and the moved area even after opera-
tion to make sure that no fire breaks out.
When fuel leaked or was spilled, there is an increased fire
hazard.
To prevent a fire hazard, always keep the following compon-
ents free of dirt, grass, hay, leaking oil, leaking fuel, grease,
etc.:
– engine, ventilation grid
– silencer (manifold, protection, spaces)
– battery, cable connections, electric drive units
– area around the fuel tank
– belt drives
Observe the information in the operator’s manual of the en-
gine manufacturer.
Spark arrestor
The engine in this machine is not equipped with a spark ar-
restor muffler.
It is in violation of California Public Resources Code Sec-
tion 4442 to use or operate this engine on or near any forest
covered, brush covered or grass covered land unless the ex-
haust system is equipped with a spark arrestor meeting any
applicable local or state laws.
Other states or federal areas may have similar laws. Check
with your state or local authorities for regulations pertaining to
these requirements.
Danger of poisoning due to exhaust gases
Engine exhaust fumes contain carbon monoxide that can
lead to serious health problems or death. Do not operate the
engine in a closed room, even when all doors and windows
are open and the room seems to be sufficiently ventilated.
Operate the engine only after you have moved the device to
the outdoors.
Observe the information in the operator’s manual of the en-
gine manufacturer.
