The HPM.1 command Activate Firmware does not reboot the payload firmware
unconditionally. The blade can be power-cycled gracefully to activate the new firmware.

9.3.1.4

BIOS Component

The ATCA-7540 provides two SPI flash components for storing redundant BIOS firmware
images; one is called Active, the other is Backup. Because the Active SPI flash is always routed
to the Intel CPU, the IPMC can only perform HPM.1 specific firmware upgrades to the Backup
SPI flash.

The Boot Bank Supervision Sensor provides the BIOS flash status information. For details, see

. It is possible to switch the banks without

upgrading an HPM.1 firmware. For details, see

Automatic rollback is implemented via fail safe architecture. For details, see

Fail Safe Logic

The HPM.1 command Activate Firmware does not reboot the payload firmware
unconditionally. The blade can be rebooted gracefully to activate the firmware.

Crisis recovery is fully supported. Corrupted SPI flash components can be reprogrammed via
IPMI with the help of the ShMM.

9.3.2

Retrieving Versioning Information

Retrieving the actual and backup version of the components is possible without switching
payload firmware boot banks (Artesyn Embedded Technologies strongly recommends the use
of FCU for embedded firmware upgrades). The following terminal output example illustrates
the component versions:
