1 Introduction
The ARGUS 145
PLUS
tests VDSL2, ADSL, SHDSL, Ethernet and ISDN BRI / U-interface
and POTS. This all-rounder with a color display offers support for VDSL2 (all profiles),
ADSL (Annex A and B) and SHDSL (2, 4, 6, and 8-wire with support for SHDSL.bis
(Enhanced) and EFM), Ethernet, ISDN (BRI and U-Interface) and even POTS; all
integrated into a single handheld device. Separate chipsets for ADSL, VDSL2 and SHDSL
ensure optimum performance on all of these interfaces.
In addition to functioning as an analog handset and ISDN tester, it also offers support for
testing all of the various xDSL interfaces and, via Ethernet, VoIP. Besides simulating a
terminal, it also offers extensive statistics functions and evaluates voice quality in
accordance with a variety of techniques, such as using MOS tests (R-factor).
In addition, an optional package is available for determining the Media Delivery Index (MDI)
and assessing IPTV and Video on Demand data streams. The ARGUS 145
PLUS
is also
well equipped for checking Internet connections as it has IP PING and Trace Route
functions as well as upload and download tests.
Rounding out the package, the ARGUS can operate in xDSL-Bridge and Router mode and
can also perform an IPTV or xDSL-Online-Trace when it is used together with the
WINanalyse program on a Windows PC. Resistance and capacitance measurements are
available to check the physical characteristics of the subscriber’s line. In view of the above
set of features, it is obvious that the ARGUS 145
PLUS
offers a wide range of measurement
functions for use on the current interfaces. Nonetheless, it should not be overlooked that
this extensive set of features has been packed into an small, handy device; one that is not
only very compact and convenient to use on location – wherever that location might be –
but one that is also ready for use in no time.
Ease of Use
The ARGUS 145
PLUS
is also extremely easy to use. It has a large (320 x 240 pixel) color
display, is operated using softkeys includes a USB client interface. The tester has two
Ethernet interfaces and uses a high-powered, long-life lithium-ion (rechargeable) battery
pack.
Software updates can be downloaded to a PC free of charge and then loaded into the
ARGUS at any time. They are available at www.argus.info/en/service.
