Getting Started With Basic Procedures
Changing or Muting the Volume
This section describes how you change or mute the volume.
Note: Before you can use your remote to adjust the volume, the remote control must be
programmed to control the volume. You can select to have the remote control either the
TV’s volume or the set-top box’s volume. When you choose to program volume to be
controlled by the TV, the only way you can change the set-top box’s output volume level
is through the Volume Level option under the Audio preference. For information about
the Volume Level option, refer to Setting the Volume Level on page 97. For additional
information on your remote control, refer to the remote control documentation.
To balance the remote control VOL buttons for the set-top box output
This procedure assumes that you are using the set-top box to control the volume, rather than
the TV. The first time you use your set-top box, use the following procedure to set the balance
between your devices.
Note: If you prefer to use the TV to control the volume, refer to the procedure descibed in To
balance the remote control volume buttons for audio output from the TV, page 99.
The following procedure describes how you change the volume when the remote control is
programmed to control the set-top box’s volume.
1 On the set-top box, select a typical channel that you watch.
2 Press the TV button and lower the TV volume to 0.
3 Press the CBL button and raise the set-top box volume to MAX using the VOL+ button.
4 Press the TV button and raise the volume so that the audio you hear is just a little bit
louder than you want for listening.
5 Press the CBL button and lower the set-top box volume a bit (using the VOL - button) so
that you are now at normal listening levels. You can now use your set-top box to control
the volume.
Note: If you find that you cannot get enough volume (loud enough), repeat the procedure
again and set the TV volume higher than before.
