Chapter 4. Installation and set up
ACI-3144-XR Chassis User Manual
Safety precautions
APCON recommends strict adherence to safety equipment measures defined by OSHA, 29
CFR Part 1910.
Follow the precautions listed in this section when working with chassis and blades.
Rack mount preparation
To prepare for installation into a rack, gather the tools you need to mount the chassis
flange bolts to the rack, such as a screwdriver and/or wrench.
Mechanical loading
Mount the equipment in the rack so no hazardous condition is created due to uneven
mechanical loading.
Operating ambient temperature
If installed in a closed or multi-unit rack assembly, the operating ambient temperature of
the rack environment may be greater than room ambient temperature. Consider installing
the equipment in an environment compatible with the maximum ambient temperature
(Tma) specified. See
on page 17 for more information.
Air flow
Installation of the equipment in a rack should be such that the amount of air flow required
for safe operation of the equipment is not compromised. The chassis requires that air
enters from the left side (as you face the front of the unit) and exits to the right.
Protect sensitive equipment
The chassis uses components that are sensitive to static electricity. To protect equipment,
follow the guidelines in this section to avoid situations that may cause damage to
hardware via ElectroStatic Discharge (ESD).
Ensure that the socket outlet from which the equipment is powered provides a connection
to the building protective earth.
Static electricity can damage chassis components. To protect sensitive devices, take the
following precautions:
• Make sure that all of the cables are tightly connected.
• Use a conductive wrist strap attached to a good earth ground. Use approved
anti-static floor mats, heel straps, or other method to reduce static electricity.
NOTE
When manufacturing cables for use with DC power supplies, it is strongly
recommended that you use the services of a registered electrician.
ESD CAUTION
To avoid damage from ElectroStatic Discharge (ESD), do not touch devices
without first taking appropriate precautions.
