Planning the Stack

Here are factors to consider when planning a stack:

How many AT-x550 Switches will be in the stack? The maximum is 
four devices.

Which ports will be the stack trunk? Refer to “Stack Trunk” on 
page 54.

Which switch will be the master switch? This can be any switch. If 
the switches has different versions of the AlliedWare Plus 
management software, the master switch should have the most 
recent version. Refer to “Master and Member Switches” on 
page 71.

What will be the ID numbers of the switches? The range is 1 to 4. 
Refer to “Switch ID Numbers” on page 73.

Do all switches have the same version of the AlliedWare Plus 
management software, preferably v5.4.8-0.2 or later? Instructions 
in Chapter 6, “Building the Trunk with Default Stacking Ports 17 
and 21” on page 125 and Chapter 7, “Building the Trunk with 
Optional Stacking Ports” on page 143 explain how to view this 
information.

Note

Before adding an AT-x550-18XSPQm Switch to an existing stack, 
verify that the stack switches have AlliedWare Plus v5.4.8-0.2 or 
later. An AT-x550-18XSPQm Switch cannot join a stack that has an 
earlier version of the management software.

If the stack will have both AT-x550-18XTQ and AT-x550-18XSQ 
Switches with a 10Gbps trunk, have you determined the required 
number of SP10 transceivers for the trunk? Refer to Figure 22 on 
page 65 and Figure 23 on page 66.
