4 SECURE FUNCTIONS
The TRON Secure 33.6 modem can protect your system from illegal callers by a number of security
measures. First of all it features a callback system, permitting access only to users that are known
to the modem.
To prevent a hacker simulating the telephone line, the TRON Secure 33.6 can monitor the polarity
of the telephone line. If the polarity is not correct the modem will not perform a dialback.
Furthermore a secondline option is installed. This option uses different telephone-lines for dial-in
and dialback.
To protect the data during the connection a DES (Data Encryption Standard) encryption is
performed. DES is the International standard for encrypting - and decrypting data by a secret key
that is shared by both the sending - and receiving unit. At this moment DES is the most well-known
and widely used cryptosystem in the world. The TRON Secure 33.6 modems make use of 2-key
triple DES for enhanced security.
Another great feature included in the TRON Secure 33.6 is the LOG-function. Together with the
Auto-dialback function, the LOG function keeps track of all calls being made to the modem.
Operators can check the modem and see if any illegal calls were received. Also recorded are
login times of registered users.
DES during Auto-dialback
The TRON Secure 33.6 allows you to select for each users (=dialback entry) whether or not to use
DES encryption. This feature ensures compatibility with older modems not able to use DES.
For the TRON Secure 33.6 modem connected to the (PABX) system, it is therefore not necessary
to use the AT%D command, since this is already done by programming the entries in a correct
manner.
Calling to the TRON Secure 33.6 modem connected to the (PABX) system is always done without
DES. While performing the dialback to the user, the modem checks the dialback entry and
switches DES on or off. See also the AT*P and AT%D command.
