Removing MiniGBIC Connectors
MiniGBICs modules can be hot swapped. You are not required to power off the switch before removing a
MiniGBIC from an OS8-GNI-U8 or OS8-GNI-U24 module. To remove a Miniature Gigabit Interface
Converter (MiniGBIC) follow the steps below.
Note.
Before handling any components, free yourself of static by wearing a grounding strap, or by ground-
ing yourself properly. Static discharge can damage the MiniGBIC, as well as the Gigabit Ethernet fiber
module. Refer to
“Using the Grounding Wrist Strap and Chassis Grounding Lug” on page 5-29
for more
information.

Remove any LC cables from the MiniGBIC.

To remove a MiniGBIC you must first open the MiniGBIC’s hinged face to approximately ninety
degrees. Then, grasp the hinged face and carefully pull the MiniGBIC straight out of the slot

Slide the MiniGBIC out of the module’s port.

Store the MiniGBIC in a secure, static-free location. Placing the MiniGBIC in an anti-static bag is
recommended.
