DNIC and 2B1Q circuit operating parameters
Once you configure the module position, the circuits assume the default settings for
each of the following operating parameters:
•
device mode
•
device gender
•
duplex method (two-port DTUs only)
•
RTS/CTS delay (two-port DTUs only)
•
control signals
•
data structure (asynchronous only)
•
clocking (synchronous only)
•
multidrop data bridge
•
rate adaption
•
transport bandwidth
•
transport position
•
signaling and the signaling bit position
•
interface speed (or data rate)
•
data position
•
loss-of-synchronization debounce time (DNIC only)

Device mode
Data circuits support two device modes:
•
synchronous
•
asynchronous
Synchronous devices transmit a continuous stream of characters. Synchronization
between devices is maintained through timing signals that are transmitted on
separate conductors. Select synchronous if the data device connected to the module
uses synchronous data communication. When the circuit is configured as
synchronous, clocking parameters must be set (see section 17.9).
Asynchronous devices transmit data one character at a time. A character can be
represented by five to eight bits with start and stop bits used to mark the beginning
and end of the character. Select asynchronous if the data device connected to the
module uses asynchronous data communication. When the circuit is configured as
asynchronous, the data structure must be set (see section 17.8).
Note —
If asynchronous mode is selected, transparent rate adaption
cannot be used.
