ELECTRICAL SAFETY RULES
1)
The mains voltage must correspond to the voltage marked on the rating
plate. Do not use other sources of power.
2)
It is advisable to use an automatic circuit breaker on the mains electricity
power supply line, in the form of a residual current device (RCD) that is
activated at a current of not more than 30 mA or as otherwise indicated in
the standards in force in the country in which the unit is used. Consult your
local electrician.
3)
Never pass the machine over the extension cable while the machine is working
as it could cut the cable. Make sure you always know where the cable is.
4)
Use the special cable holder for connecting up the extension cable.
5)
Never use the machine when it is raining. Try to prevent it from getting wet
or being exposed to humidity. Do not leave it outside overnight. Do not cut
damp or wet grass.
6)
Only use an extension cable which is suitable for outdoor work. Keep it
away from the cutting area, from damp, wet or oily surfaces or sharp edges
and away from heat and fuels.
7)
The Plug and socket on the extension cable must be made of rubber, soft
PVC or some other thermoplastic material that has the same mechanical
strength, or they must be covered with these materials. Used a harmonised
cable (at least type H05RN-F) with a cable section, type of plug and socket
that are suited to the power of this machine. Contact your local electrician.
8)
Before use, always check that the extension cable is not damaged.
9)
Children must be kept at a safe distance from the machines connected to
the mains.
10)
Do not touch earthed (grounded) objects.
11)
If the power cable or extension cable are damaged while in use, disconnect
the extension cable from the mains power supply immediately. Do not touch
the cables before having disconnected the machine from the mains power
supply. Do not use the machine when the cables are damaged.
This machine has been built with a double insulation. This double insulation
offers a higher electrical safety and this avoids the need to earth the machine.
BEFORE STARTING (FIG. C)
The machine is supplied with some parts that have not been assembled. These
can easily be assembled by following the instructions below:
GUARD ASSEMBLY (if supplied separately)
Insert the guard into the lower casing and secure it with the screws supplied
with the machine.
Warning! During this operation be careful of
the cord cutting blade, it can injure you.
TRIMMING GUIDE WHEEL ASSEMBLY (if supplied)
Fit the trimming guide wheel to the front of the guard by matching the fixing
holes as illustrated in fig. C and secure the wheel with the screws that are
supplied together with the machine.
WARNING! During this operation, keep fingers and hands
clear of the line cutter. You could injure yourself.
CENTRAL HANDGRIP ASSEMBLY (if supplied)
Fit the handgrip of the machine using the parts supplied as shown in fig. C.
CUTTING HEAD ASSEMBLY (if supplied separately)
Assemble the cutting head as described in the REPLACING THE TRIMMING
DEVICE chapter.
ASSEMBLY OF THE SHOULDER HARNESS CLASP (if present)
Assemble the clasp as shown in fig. C.
STARTING AND STOPPING THE MACHINE
1)
Before use, always check that the machine is in good working order, check
the length of the trimmer line and follow the instructions on your model,
which are set out below (see technical specifications sheet):
-
Cutting head with manual spool unit
: check that the nylon line touches
or goes beyond the guard edge. If the nylon line does not reach the required length,
grasp the spoolholder with one hand and the nylon line with the other (fig. D).
Release the nylon line from the vent in the spoolholder (pos. 1), pull hard, unwind
the line as far as the next vent and insert it into this vent (pos. 2).
-
Professional cutting head with manual reel:
Check that the cord
touches or passes the edge of the guard.
If the cord is shorter than the required length, hold the reel with
one hand, and pull the cover with the other, causing it to rotate
space in an anti-clockwise direction(1-2). Pull the cords outwards
and check their length(3). If necessary repeat the operation (fig.D).
-
Cutting head with automatic spool unit
: check that the nylon line
touches or goes beyond the edge of the guard. If the nylon line does not
reach the required length, press the button with one finger and at the same
time pull on the line (fig. D).
For subsequent adjustments when the machine is in use, gently tap the
spool button against the ground whilst continuing to run the machine(fig. L).
The length of the nylon line will thus be automatically adjusted.
-
Cutting head with professional automatic spool
: make sure
that the cutting line touches or extends beyond the edge of the guard. If the
cutting line is not the required length, press the knob all the way down with
the palm of your hand and rotate it clockwise by one click, then pull out the
line (fig. D). For subsequent adjustments during machine operation, run the
motor at full speed and hit the head on the ground so that the knob is pressed
and allows the line to unreel (fig. L).
-
Cutting head with disposable line
: check that the line is correctly fixed
to the spool and that is protrudes by at least 2 cm from the spool. Otherwise, the
disposable line must be replaced in the manner indicated in the drawing (fig. I).
-
Dual-line cutting head
: hold the head tight, loosen the knob and feed
the lines through the appropriate slots so that they extend the same length
at both ends, then re-tighten (fig. D).
-
Cutting head with 'Full-Automatic' spool
: make sure that the
cutting line touches or extends beyond the edge of the guard. If the cutting
line does not reach the required length, start the machine (as described
below) two or three times without cutting the grass: this will automatically
adjust the length of the line.
-
Cutting head with plastic blades
: make sure that the blade holding
disk is properly fastened.
-
Cutting head with star-shaped metal blade (if provided)
:
make sure the blade is securely fastened before starting the machine.
2)
Plug the machine into the extension cable socket and connect to the cable
coupler ( fig. E). Take hold of the machine firmly and, without bringing it into
contact with the grass to be cut, press the switch on the top handgrip. Run
the machine for a few seconds without cutting thus adjusting the line.
3)
The machines provided with lower adjustable body allow vertical cutting of
the grass. To adjust the lower body, proceed as follows as shown in fig. M:
- disconnect the power supply
- hold the lower part of the machine with one hand and the central tube with
the other hand
- push them against each other and rotate the lower part by 180
O
(1)
- release the lower part (2) so as to cut the grass vertically (3)
- to return to the original position, repeat the above operations by rotating
the lower part in the opposite direction
4)
On some machines it is possible to lengthen, rotate or tilt the edge cutter.
See figure N.
5)
To switch off the machine, release the power switch.
WARNING! After switching off the machine, the cutting
device continues to rotate for a few more seconds.
PRECAUTIONS AND GUIDELINES FOR USING
THE MACHINE
WARNING! Never use the machine without the guard (if it
is supplied separately).
WARNING! A short or worn line cuts less efficiently so
read the instructions on adjusting line length in the chapter
STARTING AND STOPPING THE MACHINE or replace it in
accordance with the instruction in the following chapter.
