Most instruments (such as GCs or GC-MSDs) require a waiting time for the system to stabilize
and self-clean before use when the gas source or gas trap is changed. This waiting time is often
2 hours or longer. Results from analyses performed too soon after changing the trap may not be
reproducible. The longer the wait time the more stable the system will be, thus protecting the
instrument and the column when changing gases or the gas trap.
