4-1 TRAC TOR PREPA RA TION
The Glen coe FC3800 Field Cul ti va tor is de -
signed to be pulled by trac tor equipped with a dou -
ble lip or cle vis type hitch. If your trac tor is not
equipped as such, you need to pur chase the hitch
from your lo cal trac tor dealer. If your Field Cul ti va -
tor is equipped with the cle vis op tion, this should
be re moved. The cle vis op tion is only for trans port
use. Be fore at tach ing the Field Cul ti va tor, pre pare
the trac tor as fol lows:
4-1.1 In flate the rear trac tor tires equally and add
bal last ac cord ing to the trac tor op era tor’s
man ual.
4-1.2 Lock the trac tor draw bar in the cen ter po si -
tion.

4-2.1 Prior to op er at ing the FC3800 Field Cul ti -
va tor, in spect it thor oughly for good op er at ing
con di tion.
4-2.2 Re place worn or miss ing parts.
4-2.3 When the ma chine is new, check the bolt
tight ness af ter a few hours of op era tion.
Tighten any loose nuts or bolts. Check the
gauge wheel lug bolts daily.
4-2.4 Check the gauge wheel tire in fla tion. In flate
all tires equally to avoid side draft. Fol low the
tire manu fac tur er’s rec om mended pres sures
listed on the side wall of the tires.
4-2.5 Lu bri cate the ma chine as shown in Sec -
tion 4-9 (See Fig ure 4-7).
4-3 AT TACH ING TO THE TRAC TOR
4-3.1 Align the trac tor draw bar with the ma chine.
Raise or lower the Field Cul ti va tor ring hitch,
as needed, us ing the swivel jack. At tach the
unit with proper size hitch pin.
4-3.2 Clean all hy drau lic cou plings and at tach to
the trac tor. When prop erly at tached, the hy -
drau lic con trol lever should cause the Field
Cul ti va tor to:
a. Lower to the ground when the con trol arm is
moved for ward or down ward, and
b. Raise when the con trol arm is moved back -
ward or up ward.
4-3.3 Fully ex tend the hy drau lic gauge wheel cyl -
in ders, and place the cyl in der lock outs in the
trans port lock po si tion over the cyl in der rods.
On the main frame only, se cure the lock outs
with the lock out pins.
4-3.4 Al ways place the swivel jack on the in te rior
mount be fore set ting the ma chine in mo tion.
4-4 FIELD OP ERA TION
4-4.1 Raise the unit to take the weight off of the
trans port locks. Re move the trans port locks
from the lift cyl in ders (on the main frame
only). Store the trans port locks on the wing
sup ports
(See Fig ure 4-1) .
4-4.2 Re move the wing lock pins and store in the
wing sup ports. Un fold the wings and ex tend
the fold cyl in ders com pletely
(See Fig ure
4-1) .
