b. Grasping the new lamp by its leads,
gently insert it into the lamp block
while watching the light spot on the
paper screen reduce and focus.
c. Note that as the spot comes into
focus, it appears oblong, not round.
Rotate the lamp by its leads until the
long axis of the light spot (i.e., the
filament) is vertical.
d. While holding the lamp in this posi-
tion, remove the paper screen.
Watching the BR2 readout, push the
lamp slowly toward the half-filled
cuvette in the cuvette holder until the
readout peaks, then falls below 1.0.
Slowly pull the lamp back until the
readout goes back up to 1.7 (filament
orientation should be retained).
e. At a readout of exactly 1.7, gently
retighten the setscrew in the top of
the lamp block so that the lamp is
held securely in position, but not
crushed.
CAUTION Tightening the lamp setscrew
too much will either destroy the
lamp immediately, or cause it to
burn out very quickly. In either
case, you would have to repeat
this entire adjustment procedure
with a new lamp.
8. When adjustment has been correctly
accomplished, the light spot falling on
the cuvette-holder aperture will be just
slightly larger than the aperture.
If this criterion cannot be met , the lamp
voltage may be slightly increased from
the factory-set 3.35 volts: Switch S3 (the
long selector switch) to the “LAMP”
position and adjust R3 (LAMP ADJ in
the right center of the Main board) for a
display readout of 34.0 (3.40 V). Then
switch S3 back to the 454 position,
loosen the lamp setscrew, and repeat step
7, above.
9. Set toggle switch S2 to NORMAL and
selector switch S3 to +15.
10. Complete the Direct Zero Adjustment
Procedure (see Service Manual).
