9. Troubleshooting and service
9.1 Routine maintenance
Maintenance must be performed on a regular basis to maintain the OsmoPRO's accuracy and
precision. Follow the schedules below to perform routine service on the instrument.
9.1.1 Daily maintenance
Sample Probe
The sample probe must be inspected daily to ensure that it is clean and free of any sample
buildup. To lower the sample probe for inspection and cleaning, go to the
Diagnostics
screen,
press
CLEANING
, and then
LOWER PROBE
. If the sample probe shows signs of fouling, it
must be cleaned by wiping it with a lint-free cloth dampened with isopropyl alcohol or cleaning
solution for protein removal, such as Thermo Scientific Orion Cleaning Solution, part number
900021.
9.1.2 Weekly maintenance
Cooling well
Clean the cooling well using a flexible swab from the Swab Cleaner Kit, part number 202850,
dampened with isopropyl alcohol. The cooling well is accessible from the front of the instrument.
Remove the turntable from the instrument, and the cooling well is now visible. Insert the flexible
swab into the round opening in the cooling well.
9.1.3 Monthly maintenance
Exhaust Fans
Examine the exhaust fans on the rear of the instrument to ensure they are unobstructed by dust
or debris. If cleaning is needed, power the instrument off and use compressed air to remove the
debris obstructing the fans.
9.1.4 Semiannual maintenance
Solenoid
Remove the rear cover as described in Section 1.3. Loosen the two solenoid bracket screws
and carefully remove the plunger and spring. If the plunger shows signs of fouling, it must be
cleaned by wiping it with a lint-free cloth dampened with isopropyl alcohol or cleaning solution
for protein removal, such as Thermo Scientific Orion Cleaning Solution, part number 900021.
Reinstall the plunger and spring, attach the solenoid bracket, and install the rear cover.
9.1.5 Yearly maintenance
Instrument exterior
Use a mixture of warm water and soap. A mixture of isopropyl alcohol may also be used to
further decontaminate the exterior. Do not use abrasive cleansers or scouring pads, as they
may damage the surface. Do not allow liquid to enter the cooling chamber or other portions of
the instrument.
