Creating compound paths

A compound path is two or more paths
painted to appear transparent when
they overlap. Turning an object into a
compound path paints all objects in the
compound path with the attributes of
the backmost object in the stacking
order. To understand how these paths
work, try working in two windows— to
preview artwork in one window as you
work in Artwork view in the other.

To create a compound path:

Make sure that objects to be see-

through are in front of the background
object in the painting order.

Select all the objects that you want to

include in the compound path.

3

Choose Object

Make. Holes appear where paths overlap.

To release compound paths:

Select the compound path to release.
