Cutting objects with objects

The Apply Knife command in the Object
menu and the knife tool in the plug-ins
menu cut objects in a designated shape.
The object you cut must be ungrouped.

The Apply Knife command in the Object
menu lets you use a selected object as a
“cookie-cutter” or stencil to cut through
other objects. The Apply Knife command
slices overlapping objects into discrete
shapes according to the selection’s
boundaries, and discards the original
selection.

The knife tool in the plug-ins toolbox
slices an object along a freehand path
you draw with the tool, and copies the
cut portion of an object.

To cut objects using the Apply Knife
command:

Select the object that you want to use

as a cutter, and position it on top of the
object or objects that you want to cut.
(To retain the original selection, save a
copy elsewhere in your file.)
