Chapter 3. Configuring the
Gateway
The configuration of the Gateway summarizes all administrative
settings required for its use and is therefore to be entrusted only
to skilled users qualified as system administrators. According to
this, only the user “root” (the system administrator) has the rights
to make all the settings for configuring the Gateway. As a basic
principle, all other users have only the right to view the settings,
but not to make any changes. The only exception to this rule is
coupled with the point “Users” in the tree window (see below) as
this functionality gives other user groups a limited capability to
make some settings of the configuration. This feature will be
described in detail in chapter 4, “Using the Gateway”.
In order to configure the Gateway, you have to proceed as follows:
• Login as system administrator (user “root”) as already
explained in chapter 2, “Connecting to the GUI” (Fig. 13,
“Login”). After the login, the main window of the A850
Configurator (Fig. 14) appears.
• Lock the Gateway by “Lock Gateway” as already explained in
chapter 2, “Commands on the Menu Bar”, Figs. 23 - 25. This
is necessary by reason of the multi-user-capability of the
Gateway, in order to prevent other users from attempting any
conflicting activities while the Gateway is configured.
• Open the “System configuration” in the “Tree view” by
double clicking. Now, the main window of the A850
Configurator as displayed below in Fig. 79 will appear.
The procedure of configuring the Gateway is considerably facili-
tated by the user-friendly GUI. As you will notify, the status line of
the window will show the user having logged in as well as the
remaining time the Gateway will stay locked yet.
