COM1 is always available. COM2 is available with options PPC11A-xxx1xxxx,
PPC11A-xxx3xxxx and PPC11A-xxx5xxxx (see the
details).
The options to operate the ports in RS422 mode or to disable or loopback the
transceivers, under software control, are
provided by FPGA registers. The
transceivers are disabled by default and must be enabled before any serial transfers
can take place.
The baud rate is software programmable, derived from the platform frequency using
the following equation:
Baud Rate = (1/16) * (Platform Frequency/(2 * Divisor Value))
The actual performance of these ports will be limited by the throughput capability of
the software driver and processor loading.
Software debug ports are configured by default as DTE with settings of 115200 baud,
8 bits/character, 1 stop bit, parity disabled and no flow control.
4.12.2 COM3 to COM6
Four further serial ports, COM3 to COM6, are provided using an Exar XR17V354
Quad UART connected to the processor via a PCIe Switch. These ports are capable of
operation in RS232/422/485 in both synchronous and asynchronous modes,
providing support for SDLC and HDLC protocols.
The serial ports are driven by ISL41334 bus transceivers and can be configured by
software to operate in RS232, RS422 or RS485 modes. In RS485 mode, the serial
controller can automatically disable the transmit buffer after transmission is
completed.
The serial ports are intended only to be used by Abaco software drivers. See the
relevant software manual for details.
COM3 to COM6 are available with options PPC11A-xxxx5xxx, PPC11A-xxxx6xxx
PPC11A-xxxx7xxx and PPC11A-xxxx8xxx (see the
