Functional Description

4.1

Introduction

Figure 4-1 PPC11A General View

The Abaco Systems PPC11A is a member of the PowerXtreme family of 6U VME

Single Board Computers. It uses either the NXP T1042 QorIQ processor, which
contains four e5500 PowerPC processing cores running at 1.4 GHz, or the NXP T2081
QorIQ processor, which contains four dual-threaded e6500 PowerPC processing

cores running at 1.8 GHz. Both processors support single memory controllers, NXP’s
Trusted Architecture, PCIe serial fabric and I/O interfaces. The PPC11A supports
8 GB of DDR3L SDRAM with ECC, 512 MB of NOR Flash memory and 32 GB of

SATA NAND Flash memory, along with up to four Gigabit Ethernet channels, serial
COMs, USB2.0, and Serial ATA interfaces. A VME64 interface is available to the

backplane.

The processor is connected to PCI devices and mezzanine sites using PCIe through a
non-blocking switch architecture. Two 64-bit PMC sites are provided, each

supporting PCI-X operation at up to 133 MHz, allowing for off-the-shelf or custom
PMCs to be fitted to add further functionality to the PPC11A. Both sites also support
XMCs, providing a x4 PCIe link to each site, for higher bandwidth connectivity to

the host and high-speed rear I/O (site 1 to P0 only).

Additional I/O interfaces such as up to 2 channels of dual-redundant MIL-STD-1553

and video output on either VGA or DVI may optionally be supported without the

addition of a mezzanine card.

The PPC11A combines familiar software interfaces and reliability with high-speed

interfaces, offering significant increases in on-card and inter-board bandwidth.
