5. For fine adjustment look through the microscope and slightly rotate the positioning ring
until the target beam has reached the smallest possible diameter (target beam is
maximally focused) and can be seen intensively on the tissue.
Caution: The target beam must always be focused under microscope. The indication of the
operating distance on the adjusting ring merely serves as an orientation.
Note:
If the operation field is very dimly lit, two target beams may be visible. The following
settings must always be made on the more intensive one of the two target beams.
7.2 Defocusing of aiming / laser beam
The diameter of the target beam is smallest in position "F" (focused) of the defocusing
lever. Use this lever position for tissue cutting. Moving the lever in the direction "D"
(defocused) will cause an increase in the beam diameter. A defocused beam is used for
coagulation and vaporization of tissue. In position "D", the diameter reaches its maximum
(see figure 16).

Please note that the power density decreases with increasing the diameter of the target
beam. Changes in performance should always be carried out according to the instructions
for use of the laser.
The more you defocus, the lower the energy input (compared to the equal area)
Caution: If the operating distance is changed during the treatment, the defocusing lever
must be returned to position "F" (focused) before the focus is re-adjusted.
