GENERAL

1.1

Document Purpose

This document provides general, installation, and specifica­
tion information for the Westell

r

 Boxer

t

 BXB05V‐A

Outdoor Battery Box, shown in Figure 1. The intended audi­
ence for this document is Network engineering, operations,
and installation personnel. See Table 2 for ordering informa­
tion on this product and Table 3 for available orderable options
for this product. For information on the Westell Boxer outdoor

equipment cabinet 

typically installed with and above this battery

box (the cabinet accepts equipment designed for 19” rack‐
mounting inside it), consult the documentation shipped with
the Boxer cabinet (see Table 4 for available Boxer cabinets).

Hereafter, the Westell Boxer BXB05V‐A Battery Box may be
referred to as the “battery box” and the Boxer cabinet installed
above the battery box hereafter may be referred to as the “cabinet.”

Document Status

Whenever this practice is updated, the reason will be stated in
this paragraph.

1.3

Product Purpose and Description

The Boxer 5V battery box is designed to be mounted with and
under a Boxer 5V cabinet. In this configuration, the battery box
can support up to 35 pounds of batteries. The battery box
provides an enclosed, weather­resistant, vented space for an op­
tional battery back­up system for the Boxer cabinet. The door
panel is grounded and can be locked and unlocked with a 216
tool or can wrench. The door also contains a hasp on the front
panel for an optional padlock. Bagged hardware shipped with
the battery box and contains the parts listed near the end of Para­
graph 1.5.

‐BATTERY WEIGHT NOTE ‐

This product is intended for use with batteries with a combined
weight less than 35 pounds. If heavier batteries are required, or­
der and use kit BXA05V‐WH1 or BXA05V‐PM3 (see Table 3
).

1.4

Product Mounting

The Boxer 5V battery box is mounted with and attached to the
bottom of a Boxer 5V cabinet. The conjoined Boxer 5V battery
box and the Boxer 5V cabinet can be installed outdoors, above
ground, on a wall, H­frame, pole or post.

When mounting on a wall or H‐frame with a battery load
of less than 35 pounds, no additional kits are required.

When mounting on a wall or H‐frame with a battery load
more than 35 pounds (but less than 65 pounds), order and
use the optional Wall/H‐frame mounting kit, model
BXA05V‐WH1.
